announcements made to us to remain in our seats and power will be restored shortly. that delay stretched 34 minutes before football came back. yes the momentum shifted. the san francisco 49ers trailed by 22 points. they were down by 22 points to the baltimore ravens. it seemed as if they were running away with this game just after halftime. jacoby jones ran back. the power went out. it didn't completely go out. the dome wasn't completely tossed into darkness but it was enough to halt the game. players on both sides were on the sidelines trying their best to stay limbered up and trying their best to wait it out. the air-conditioning had gone off so it was starting to get warm in the up thor rea the upps where we were. the baltimore ravens are crowned super bowl champions for the second time. maybe things would have been different if san francisco had come all the way back to win this game. >> it made a whole lot of people nervous including myself. as we were watching this, we could see the harbaugh brothers, be coaches. i think it was john who really became upset and had a talking to with on

to the superdome. superdome officials tells us, though, is that there is a piece of equipment that monitors that power feed coming into the building. it registered a, quote, abnormality. this is different from the malfunction we had at the super bowl a few years ago. the word of the day is abnormality. that would have triggered an auto shutoff. opened a breaker. then it is like in your house when a breaker blows. have you go to the basement and flip the switch back. that's what the officials had to do. they had to wait for all the power to ramp back up. goodell said he does not consider this any kind of black eye on the superdome or city of new orleans. he said the nfl will absolutely consider having future super bowls here. he declared this week a total success. even with a little bit after blackout. >> a little bit of a blackout. my goodness. what did the coaches -- i always wonder if when the game over, it is done, it is behind you. move on. or if you hear some harping on the things they don't like about coaches, players, anybody weighing in on this? >> reporter: well, it is interesting.

of thousands of tourists come to the city because of this game. cnn's rachel nichols joins us now. rachel, you were at that game. black eye for new orleans? >> reporter: it's interesting you talk about the breaker. it's kind of what happens in your basement, you go flip up the breaker and put it back in. the abnormality you referred to is about the power feed that comes into the stadium. it registered an abnormality in the amount of power coming in here, flipped open the breaker as sort of an auto shutoff to compensate. officials had to go in and reflick it back and get all the lights around the stadium up. you showed john harbaugh, the ravens coach, looking so heated. here's the inside scoop on why a ravens official told me it wasn't about the power being off and getting the game started. it was when they wanted to restart the game. on the 49ers sideline, their head set, their coaches head sets weren't working. so the officials asked the ravens to turn their headsets off as well to make it a fair advantage. the ravens have a coach up in the box. the 49ers coaches were down on the field. so jo
